Gizmo William Bunyard

1

Memorial Written by Samantha Bunyard.

Gizmo was adopted from Second Chance in Norman on December 30, 2009.  I had no idea at the time that I had made the best decision of our lives.  We didn't know it at the time, but Gizmo was already middle aged when we got him.  He loved being around my dad, and spent many hours in his lap during long dialysis sessions.  We called him his therapy dog.  We took Giz everywhere with us-out to lunch, family trips, and even therapy sessions!  He truly helped my mom and me through many tough times when my dad passed.  He became so much more than a family member.  We were soul mates.  Gizmo had so many friends and acquaintances through his travels that he started his own Facebook page.  We had so much fun with that.  After all, he had so many opinions about things!  One of our favorite ventures was trying out different burger places in the Metro.  We called Giz our "burger connoisseur".  We also documented all the different dog friendly places that allowed hin to go inside or restaurants that let him dine on the patio.  He never minded extra snuggles in bed and just wanted to be next to his "person" at all times.

Gizmo passed away on March 5, 2015 after months of severe arthritis and a spinal embolism that left him unable to walk or able to enjoy life.  My hope is that I gave him the best five years of his life.  He brought me and my family so much joy and love that we are forever in his debt.  His time with us was far too short.  He showed me that to truly love another is to give your whole heart without restriction or expectation.  So, when the time comes to say "See you again", that not even death can break that bond of mutual love and trust you have for one another.
